Pulmonary Fat Embolism Syndrome: A Case Report and Literature Review

Background: Fat embolism syndrome (FES) is caused by a systemic inflammatory response arising from embolized fat particles that block blood vessels and disrupt supply, particularly in the respiratory microcirculation. Despite its high morbidity mortality, FES still challenging to diagnose due versatile symptoms. Case Presentation: In this article, we describe case reports of two patients with pulmonary Zhongnan Hospital Wuhan University, Wuhan, China. The were diagnosed based on their detailed medical histories, such as history liposuction surgery, low oxygen saturation, dyspnea, chest computed tomography (CT). Both them received continuous inhalation therapy antibiotic treatment. first patient additional anti-inflammation anticoagulation symptoms CT improved after treatments. They discharged completely cured. Literature Review: We obtained analyzed clinical manifestations, treatments, prognosis data 206 between January 1900 July 2021 China National Knowledge Infrastructure database. Conclusion: analysis our cases literature review suggest (such system symptoms, nervous cardiovascular mucocutaneous bleeding) combined fracture other risk factors should be considered cases. Furthermore, support glucocorticoid treatment may effective preventing death patients.
